Hopeful
HB Pencil on 5" X 8" mixed media paper

"Today is the day!" He said happily as he shuffled by, with his lottery ticket in hand. The cashier said, "He comes in every week with the same hope." The cashier smiled as she watched him shuffle down the street. The cashier dropped her eyes as she said "He served in the military and lost his leg. He has very little left in this world and yet he chooses..." The cashier never finishes her sentence but instead hands me my change and I say "Thank you." The cashier is lost in her own thoughts, as she nodds. I find this world has more layers than what we see on the surface and I am hopeful.
